The Festival of Photography
BERLIN PHOTO WEEK is Germany’s premiere photography festival, held on 2–4 September at Arena Berlin and numerous satellite venues. Special partner this year is the famous photographer agency Magnum Photos, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary at BERLIN PHOTO WEEK. Over 50,000 visitors are expected to visit BERLIN PHOTO WEEK 2022.
BERLIN PHOTO WEEK brings photography and video to life as a vital form of communication in daily life, with workshops and discussion rounds, lectures and product demos, exhibitions and interactive Funplaces, ideas and impulses. BERLIN PHOTO WEEK offers exciting experiences for anyone who loves photography. From inspiring art to individual creativity, it offers everything.
— Wolfgang Heinen, CEO of Berlin Photo Week GmbH, the festival organizer
BERLIN PHOTO WEEK aims to inspire as broad a target group as possible for photography and video: active families and ambitious photo enthusiasts, curious art and culture lovers, as well as young people of the X-Y-Z generations. This year, Arena Berlin will serve as the central event location. Numerous satellite venues, including renowned galleries and institutions throughout Berlin with top-notch exhibitions, will complement the extensive program.

BERLIN PHOTO WEEK is, in many ways, “The Festival of Photography”:
First, it is a festival of imaging trends, such as the renaissance of analogue photography (AnalogueNow, Cinestill), AI-optimized imaging software (Radiant, Mylio), innovative sustainability concepts (MPB, Whitewall, CEWE), new full-frame cameras (Nikon, Leica, Sony), creative print solutions (CEWE, Whitewall, Kodak, Hahnemühle), and current video technology (Sony, DJI, Transcontinenta).
Second, BERLIN PHOTO WEEK is a festival of photography culture, as demonstrated by the many activities surrounding the 75th anniversary of Magnum Photos.
We are very proud to host the official celebrations of Magnum Photos on the occasion of their 75th anniversary in Berlin. Magnum Photos is the world’s most prestigious photo agency, founded 75 years ago by world-famous photographers such as Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson. In addition to exhibitions by young Magnum photographers such as Nanna Heitmann and Yael Martinez, we developed the exhibition and book concept 75 Years, 75 Images in collaboration with Magnum, which we are presenting at Arena Berlin.”
— Benjamin Jäger, Artistic Director of BERLIN PHOTO WEEK
The cultural extravaganza of BERLIN PHOTO WEEK goes on: The Helmut Newton Foundation presents the exhibition Magnum Photos: The Misfits in its project space. The show Jetzt: Magnum Photos at the Reinbeckhallen showcases an exciting juxtaposition of iconic Magnum images with current works by Magnum photographers. The photo institution CHAUSSEE 36 shows select works by Inge Morath in dialogue with photographs by the Inge Morath Award winner Johanna-Maria Fritz. Robert Morat Galerie presents a show of works by Christopher Anderson. The Leica Pop-Up Gallery presents the famous Muhammad Ali series Champ by Thomas Hoepker. Buchkunst Berlin shows never before exhibited works by Thomas Hoepker. f3 – freiraum für fotografie presents an event with Myriam Boulos.
Third, BERLIN PHOTO WEEK is a festival of creativity with numerous Funplaces at Arena Berlin, inviting everyone to take pictures with unique creative motifs. More than 40 workshops throughout Berlin show that the German capital is a photo paradise with countless inspiring themes. Stars of the photography scene present their famous photographs in lectures and conferences. In discussions on sustainability, market developments, philosophical analyses of photography, and more, BERLIN PHOTO WEEK helps envision the imaging industry of tomorrow.
With its comprehensive program, diverse collaborations, and partnerships, BERLIN PHOTO WEEK is an integrative, cosmopolitan, and communicative photo festival.
