About the Camera Obscura boat
Camera Obscura is a 2000-year-old technic for projecting an outside image through a lens to a wall inside the darkened room. It is also the foundation of modern days analogue photography. While this century’s photography went digital, a few world-known photographers evolved the technic to an art form. Maciej is one of those artists that uses the camera obscura to expose images directly onto life size color photographic paper creating large scale unique paper negatives. Due to nature of the process what the sun brings onto paper, it can’t be edited. The shutter needs to be open for up to 8 seconds, while the camera is in motion- these settings require a master photographer.
During the visit you will see real time projection of the area through the eye of most unique photographic device in Berlin. Maciej will introduce you to his process and camera obscura boat, you will see his art works and you will be able to relax a bit inside the floating camera Obscura. Since 2017 Maciej traveled more than 4000 km across Europe inside self-build floating camera obscura. He cruised through Europe via Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Hamburg and Berlin. Last year he spend 2 month traveling thru Poland on Oder and Warta river before arriving to Bydgoszcz, in Poland. He returned to Berlin last Autumn.
